Pennsylvania Plein Air Center in Jim Thorpe, PA
is rapidly becoming the premier destination for artist interested in outdoor landscape painting. Located in the Carbon County Cultural Project building it offers, a mix of classes, gallery space, restaurants and access to the surrounding recreational area.
Whether it is a painting location in a heavily forested deep river gorge or a 2000-foot view from a local mountaintop or a quite moment at Mauck Chunk Lake Park this area offers an unlimited supply of beautiful landscape painting venues.
Three Day Weekend Plein Air Class

Joe Sweeney will guide you through the practical concerns of painting outdoors. Topics to be covered include: dry pastel and oil painting, proper surfaces for oil painting, materials, mediums, quick drawings to form strong compositions, color studies, and techniques to efficiently use time spent outside.
Other areas to be covered are: choosing a good painting location, reading the weather and light at a particular time of day, and color mixing for landscape painting. This course is primarily for painters of oil or pastels. However, artists experienced in Watercolor and Acrylic are also welcome.
Joe Sweeney has been a landscape painter for over 27 years with numerous shows in New York, Philadelphia, Bozeman Montana. His work has been reviewed in the Philadelphia Inquirer, the New York Times, ArtForum, and has appeared twice on the cover of American Artist. He teaches workshops at Central Pennsylvania, Lewes, Delaware Bozeman, Montana and Donegal, Ireland. His work is in many private and corporate collections across the country and in Europe.
Price $250.
Deposit 50. Required to register.
The remaining $200. is due 5 days before the first day of class.

Arrival times and plans can be negotiated, however if taken for credit, the total number of student contact hours must remain the same as the original schedule.
All levels of experience welcome.
This courses is eligible for Pennsylvania Act 48 credit and New Jersey Department of Education Professional Development credit at no additional cost (through the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts).
This class is also available for undergraduate credit from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts for an additional $200 for 1.0 undergraduate credit. All for-credit students are required to complete additional course work and (meet) contact-hour requirements.

All refunds are less nonrefundable deposits and fees and calculated as follows:
• 100% refund less the $50 nonrefundable application fee for withdrawal five business days prior to the first class
